About GenAIoT®
GenAIoT® (Generative AI + IoT) is the operational discipline of applying generative AI to connected systems where context, constraints, and accountability matter: latency, safety, reliability, privacy, cost, and regulation.
GenAIoT is not “a model added to IoT.” It is a system.
In GenAIoT, the model is not the system. The system is
model + context + tools + controls.
Our charter
GenAIoT exists to define and advance a trusted, high-value solution category at the intersection of AIoT and Generative AI—built for real operational environments.
- Grounding outputs in telemetry and operational knowledge
- Governing tool use and automation
- Measuring outcomes with KPIs tied to workflows
- Enabling safe edge and hybrid deployments
Charter statement
The mission of the GenAIoT Community is to define, develop, and promote GenAIoT as a trusted solution category. Through collaboration, thought leadership, and education, we aim to accelerate adoption across industries and establish repeatable frameworks, patterns, and best practices that practitioners can implement.
Who we are
The GenAIoT Community is a global network of practitioners, architects, and innovators who design, build, and operate GenAIoT systems across industrial and enterprise environments.
- OT/IT and platform architecture
- Data engineering, ML/AI engineering, and MLOps
- Security, risk, governance, and compliance
- Reliability engineering and operations leadership
- Product and engineering leadership
We are deployment-led: we prioritize what works in production, what scales safely, and what improves outcomes.
What we do
01. Define the category (canonical language)
We maintain clear, reusable definitions, principles, and “what it is / isn’t” framing so teams can align quickly—internally and across partners.
02. Publish reference architectures and patterns
We develop practical system building blocks and architecture patterns, including:
- Context layers (asset models, digital twins, semantics)
- Hybrid retrieval (time-series + docs/tickets/manuals)
- Model routing (edge vs cloud, small vs large)
- Tool-enabled workflows
(CMMS/ERP/ITSM/SCADA integrations)
03. Establish safety + governance fundamentals
Trust wins scale. We publish baseline governance guidance:
- Risk taxonomy (hallucination, unsafe actions, leakage, drift)
- Controls (policy, gating, HITL, approvals, rollback)
- Evaluation (golden sets, red teaming, regression tests)
- Auditability (logs, provenance, traceability)
04. Tie GenAIoT to outcomes (KPIs)
GenAIoT is only “real” when outcomes move. We map patterns to measurable KPIs:
- Downtime, MTTR, first-time fix rate
- Yield, scrap/rework, investigation cycle time
- Energy intensity, peak demand reduction
- Truck rolls, dispatch-to-resolution time
- Safety incidents/near misses and compliance adherence
- Customer experience and resolution quality
What GenAIoT is / isn’t
What GenAIoT is
- A systems approach: model + context + tools + controls.
- An operating model for human-in-the-loop automation.
- A way to deploy GenAI in environments that demand safety, auditability, and measurable outcomes.
- A bridge between IoT signals and enterprise action (tickets, work orders, configurations, dispatch, reporting).
What GenAIoT isn’t
- A chatbot glued to dashboards.
- “Fully autonomous control” without governance.
- Cloud-only inference by default (edge constraints matter).
- A model-first project that ignores data quality, topology, and operational reality.
- A replacement for deterministic controls in safety-critical systems.
How to participate
GenAIoT is powered by practitioners. You can engage by:
- Contributing use cases, patterns, and reference workflows
- Participating in working sessions / roundtables
- Sharing evaluation scenarios (“golden sets”) and governance lessons
- Sponsoring or partnering on published assets (playbooks, one-pagers, events)
